power mixes, pt.2

Figures vary, but just for general comparison, here goes. Clean, renewable energy (hydroelectric, geothermal, wind, solar and biomass) provides about the following amounts of electricity in these countries:

U.S. – 4%
Germany – 15% (most solar pv installed of any country, and not one of the sunniest ones! California, sometimes mistaken for a country, placed second.)
Philippines 33%
Spain – 35% (3rd place for installed solar)
Sweden – 50%
Iceland – 80% (mostly hydroelectric and geothermal)
Norway – 99% (mostly hydroelectric)
Costa Rica – 99% (mostly hydroelectric)

Playing a whole new act on the world stage, Mikhael Gorbachev is the founder of Green Cross International, dedicated to “expedite solutions to environmental problems that transcend national boundaries.” He is urging world leaders to go solar! (http://www.gci.ch/)
